Character Design

Character Design for ‘Cursed Dogs’ - Franco

My contribution to the Bachelor of Animation capstone short film Cursed Dogs was the design of the character Franco, an Italian pilot. The design focuses on clear shapes, readable silhouettes, and simple costume details to support animation. The visual style draws light inspiration from Studio Ghibli, particularly in the character’s proportions and expressive features.

Character Design - Bulb

This character design was developed through a fast paced sketching process, exploring a wide range of ideas before selecting one concept to refine further. The sketches were narrowed into 2 directions, elemental and object based, with the final design evolving from a light bulb inspired object concept. After establishing the core form, the design was refined through experimentation with outfit variations, colour, and texture, shaping a visually mysterious yet cute character with a futuristic, sci fi, and adventurous tone. Inspiration was drawn from Stray, particularly its atmosphere and sense of exploration. The final outcome expanded into a small character set, including a villain, pet, and sidekick designed to complement the main character.

Character Design for 3D Modelling - Sol the Dragon Hybrid

For a character design and 3D modelling project based on the theme urban fantasy, I developed an original character concept that was required to be biped, featuring a human form with draconic traits. The design combines contemporary clothing with subtle fantasy elements, with a focus on clear shapes and proportions suitable for a 3D character model.

Character Design - Luna

This character design was developed through a fast paced sketching process, exploring a range of ideas before narrowing the focus to flying creatures and creatures of the sky. The final direction was shaped by an interest in form, movement, and silhouette associated with aerial characters. Inspiration was drawn from Trico in The Last Guardian, particularly the balance between scale, personality, and emotional presence.
